Keep smiling.

This can’t be good. The National Animal Identification System (NAIS) may become mandatory for farmers wanting to certify under other USDA programs, like organic. As if there isn’t enough paperwork for organic farmers. Read about it HERE. Source: ENN.

  • As USDA keeps saying, NAIS is voluntary at the federal level, but just try to participate in commerce. Anyway, why would you want to be a part of USDA’s organic certification? It means nothing, especially when you realize that Monsanto cut a deal to say that any attempt to go organic in the future would qualify their farms to be organically certified.

Visit NoNAIS.org for more NAIS information.

  • Exactly. They say it’s voluntary, but it depends on who you are and what you’re doing. Would like to hear more about the Monsanto deal. Don’t know what that’s about. –virtualfarmer
